Getting Lost in the Mountains of Yangshuo

We got up at 9.30am and went straight down to grab breakfast. The Moondance Boutique Resort was amazing; spacious clean rooms with baclonies overlooking the river and karst rock formations beyond. Idyllic.

We took bikes for free from the hotel and went for a quick cycle around. We got lost almost immediately!
The breakfast was reasonable and you could have as much tea, coffee and juice as you liked. We took bikes for free from the hotel and went for a quick cycle around. We got lost almost immediately! So we found our way back to the hotel (somehow) and headed in the opposite direction towards Yangshuo town. We went along a busy main road on which I feared for my life, but it was actually fine. We visited the Big Banyan tree, a huge 800 year old tree that features in a Chinese love story movie so was famous for the Chinese but just interesting and beautiful to us.

Chilly dips

We went along a little way to the bridge just before Yangshuo town, took some piccies then headed back to the hotel feeling hot but a little more familiar with our surroundings, and got some lunch. I had fried rice with curry chicken (dry curry powder cooked into the rice) and Will had beef with green pepper noodles, which were both delicious.

We had a quick dip in the unheated hotel pool, which was only a little warmer than… bloody freezing!
After this we had a quick dip in the unheated hotel pool, which was only a little warmer than Wood Green outdoor swimming pool in Banbury. For any of you not familiar with this pool, that means bloody freezing!!! There were rooms attached to the pool by their balconies, so some Chinese tourists climbed tentatively down from the balconies and into the pool until it became too cold to stay in any longer.

West Street

We dried off then got a taxi to the pub street, called West Street, in Yangshuo town and found a great Indian restaurant called Ganga, which was cheap and delicious. Then we had beers in a couple of places playing some fab live acoustic music. We headed back to the hotel at around 12am.
